Greetings STEM Launch 6h Grade Families!
We have a lot of pieces moving right now, and we're so excited to share all of our learning experiences with our families.
This past week we completed our annual Red Ribbon Week with a pledge to stay off drugs. This included a spectacular visit from a DEA helicopter, an excellent reminder of all the great things we can do if we stay away from drugs.
The week of October 10th is a short week; we will have a regular schedule Monday-Wednesday and the no classes Thursday or Friday. Please plan to join us for parent-teacher conferences at your scheduled time on Wednesday or Thursday. If you have no yet received confirmation of your student's conference time, please contact the teachers directly.
We're working on two new PBLs right now in science and social studies.
In science, we are tackling the problem of erosion. We visited Lair o' The Bear Park to see erosion in action, as well as the work humans, have done to combat its destructive effects. We will present to panel in November, and we're anxious to share all of our thinking with experts in the field.
In social studies, we're studying the effects of deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. We want to help the government and the people Brazil and other countries in the Amazon River Basin to use the land in a way that preserves this unique space for generations to come. After we present our solutions to panel in mid-November, we will work together as a grade level to implement a few of our proposals.
